DIY Halloween Costume Ideas

If you’ve been here for a while, you might have heard me say that Halloween is my favorite holiday. A big part of that is dressing up, especially in DIY Halloween costumes! I love making myself and my girls’ costumes. I’m still deciding what to do this year, R is old enough to have a (big) opinion on the costume choice too. So if you’re like me, and still in the decision phase of Halloween costumes, here are some DIY Halloween costume ideas.

Girls Wolf Costume

This was my first time making a costume and a costume tutorial at the same time! R wore her DIY wolf costume all Fall and Winter, not just for Halloween.

Fairy Costume and matching Flower Crown

My favorite part about DIY costumes for kids is that they can be worn as dress up clothes all year long. I made this fairy costume and matching flower crown for a fairy themed birthday party. R’s was worn out between August and Halloween, otherwise we probably would have worn it for trick-or-treating too.

Crazy Cat Lady

Looking for an easy adult costume to DIY this Halloween? Try out this crazy cat lady DIY costume idea!

Easy Witch Costume

There are so many costumes you can wear normal clothes with and just add a few accessories. This easy witch costume is one of those! Last year, R did something similar for a DIY cat costume.

Ipad Costume

Isn’t this Ipad costume so cute? There’s even a free download to print out the “apps” to paste on!

DIY Zeus Costume

Greek gods are a perfect theme for group costumes. This little Zeus is definitely my favorite!

Swedish Chef

You better have your best Swedish Chef impression ready for this hilarious Muppet costume. This DIY costume was made for an adult, but I think a child would look adorable in this too.

Skeleton Family

Another DIY group costume idea! This DIY Skeleton costume looks so easy, I may have to try it out this year.

Dragon Cape

I made a dragon dress for Halloween one year, and R has been a dragon twice. But this easy dragon cape makes me want to make another dragon costume!

Dragon Wings

While we’re talking about dragons, I’ve got to mention this dragon wings tutorial. So cute! R would wear it all the time.

Cactus Costume

I love the creativity of this simple DIY Cactus costume! This is definitely going on my list of DIY Halloween costume ideas to consider this year.

Owl Costume

Can you believe this DIY owl costume is no-sew? Felt and hot glue are the main supplies needed to put together this Halloween costume.

Rapunzel Costume

Did somebody say princess? Not only can this Rapunzel costume be made in child or adult sizes, but the author also made a Sleeping Beauty dress!

Easy Dalmatian Costume

I’ve loved learning to use my Cricut Explore, but have yet to tackle costumes. This Easy DIY costume was made using a Cricut, black vinyl, and a white t-shirt!

Descendants Hades Costume

The Descendants is a popular movie for kids to draw inspiration for their Halloween costumes. (I’ve seen so many Mal costumes!) I love this Hades DIY so much.

DIY Candy Bar Costumes

Group DIY costume ideas are always entertaining. But the execution of these candy bar costumes is perfect! Because what is Halloween without candy?

Scarecrow Costume

I’m pretty sure my very first DIY costume I made myself was a scarecrow. This is a simple but amazing DIY costume idea.

Luna Lovegood Costume

I couldn’t pass up this Luna Lovegood DIY costume! We are big Harry Potter fans, despite recent controversy. R even had a Harry Potter themed birthday party! But check out the other costumes by this author, including her Toy Story themed ones.

Robot Box Costume

This DIY costume idea uses an upcycled cardboard box as a robot body. I think R would make hers extra sparkly, with lots of buttons.

Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas

I made a Sally costume for myself one year and a Zero costume for R. This one was made for a little girl and looks amazing!

Cocomelon Baby Costume

Does your baby love Cocomelon? This DIY JJ costume is perfect!
